“David promptly responded to our request for inspection, called when he was en route, and arrived on time. He used a drone to examine the chimney exterior and a camera for the interior, provided a copy of the inspection video, and presented a range of options for prioritizing the repairs. Excellent value, highly recommend!”

What is included
Dryer vent repair and installation, built to code
One bad section or a brand new run for a relocated laundry room, the work follows the International Residential Code and the dryer manufacturer's instructions.
- Rerouting: shorter, straighter paths with fewer elbows, often out a side wall instead of up through the roof
- Rigid metal duct: 4 inch smooth wall metal, joints taped in the direction of airflow, no screws inside the duct
- Transition connector: a listed flexible metal connector behind the dryer, eight feet or less, replacing foil and vinyl hose
- Wall and roof terminations: hoods with backdraft dampers, sealed roof flashing, at least three feet from windows and soffit vents
- Bird and pest guards: dryer rated guards that keep animals out without the lint trapping screen the code prohibits
- Crawl space and attic runs: disconnected, crushed or sagging sections rebuilt and properly supported
- Booster fans where a run cannot be shortened, using listed dryer exhaust fans
- Camera verification and airflow test when the work is finished

Why it matters
Why the duct matters as much as the cleaning
A clean vent that is too long, leaks at every joint or ends in the attic will clog again by spring. The code numbers exist for a reason.
The developed length limit
The IRC caps a dryer exhaust duct at 35 feet, minus 5 feet for every 90 degree elbow and 2.5 feet for every 45. Many 1950s ranches in Parma and Euclid blow past it.
Source: International Residential Code M1502.4.5The transition duct rule
The longest flexible connector allowed between the dryer and the wall. It must be a listed metal transition duct, never concealed in a wall or floor. Foil and vinyl hose do not qualify.
Source: International Residential Code M1502.4.3Lint is what ignites first
In 28 percent of clothes dryer fires, dust, fiber or lint was the first item to ignite. Lint escapes through every leaking joint and torn hose and lands on hot metal.

Signs the vent itself needs repair, not just a cleaning
Cleaning fixes a clogged vent. These symptoms mean the vent is broken, undersized or routed wrong.
Lint behind the dryer or in the basement
Lint on the floor means a joint is leaking or the transition hose has split. Every fiber that escapes is fuel next to a heat source.
Still damp right after a cleaning
If a fresh cleaning did not fix drying time, the run is too long, has too many elbows or is crushed somewhere behind drywall.
Hot, humid laundry room
A laundry room that fogs the window means the duct is disconnected inside a wall or ceiling and venting into the house.
Water dripping from the vent
Lake effect cold turns warm exhaust into condensation in an uninsulated attic run. The water turns lint into a paste no brush removes.
No hood outside, or a flap that never moves
Walk outside while the dryer runs. If no flapper opens, the vent may end in the attic, the crawl space or a wall cavity.
Foil or plastic accordion hose
The ribbed interior traps lint and the material sags and kinks. Neither is allowed as exhaust duct, and vinyl can melt.
Vent tied into a chimney or crawl space
Older Cleveland homes sometimes vent the dryer into an unused flue or under the house. Both are prohibited and both need a new route.
Vent run longer than 35 feet
Long runs with several elbows lose airflow fast. Rerouting or a booster fan brings the dryer back within the code limit.
How it works
From camera survey to airflow test
Camera survey and measurement
We scan the existing run on camera, count elbows, measure developed length and check the termination.
Route plan in writing
The shortest workable path, the termination location and the materials, with a firm price, explained before anything is cut.
Install in rigid metal
Old hose and damaged sections come out. New duct goes in with sealed joints, proper support and a damper hood or flashed roof cap outside.
Airflow test and proof
We run the dryer, confirm airflow at the hood and scan the new run on camera. You get the video.

Pricing
What changes the price of dryer vent repair and installation
The camera survey tells us which of these apply to your house, and you get a firm written price before any work starts.
Length and route
A short run through an open basement wall is straightforward. A second floor laundry venting through finished ceilings takes more time and material.
Termination type
A wall hood is quick. A roof termination needs flashing, a proper cap and safe roof access, and an icy roof adds setup time.
Damage and access
Collapsed sections inside a wall, crawl space work or a drywall opening that needs patching each add a line to the estimate.

Dryer stopped drying and the laundry room is hot?
Unplug the dryer or shut off its gas valve and do not run another load. That is how dryer fires start. Same day visits across Lake, Cuyahoga and Geauga counties.

FAQ
Dryer vent repair and installation questions
Can you shorten my dryer vent run?
Often, yes. Many long basement runs can exit through the rim joist a few feet from the dryer instead of crossing the house. We measure, count the elbows and show you the options on paper.
Is flexible foil duct allowed behind a dryer?
Not as exhaust duct, and never inside walls or floors. The code allows one listed metal transition connector up to eight feet long between the dryer and the wall. Everything past that must be rigid smooth wall metal. Vinyl hose is never acceptable.
Should my dryer vent go through the roof or the wall?
A wall termination is shorter, easier to clean and less likely to collect condensation, so we choose it whenever the layout allows. Roof terminations work when there is no other path but need a proper dryer cap with a damper, sealed flashing and more frequent cleaning.
Do you install bird guards on dryer vents?
Yes. We use guards designed for dryer exhaust, with louvers that open under airflow and close when the dryer stops. Window screen and hardware cloth trap lint and are prohibited by code, so we remove them when we find them.
Can a booster fan fix a long run?
Sometimes. If rerouting is impossible, a listed dryer exhaust booster fan can make a long run work, but it adds a component that needs cleaning. We recommend it only when shortening the duct is off the table.
What does dryer vent repair and installation cost?
It depends on length and route, the termination type and how much damage or access work is involved. The camera survey settles those questions and you receive a free written estimate before any work begins.
