“David promptly responded to our request for inspection, called when he was en route, and arrived on time. He used a drone to examine the chimney exterior and a camera for the interior, provided a copy of the inspection video, and presented a range of options for prioritizing the repairs. Excellent value, highly recommend!”

What is included
What a complete fireplace cleaning covers
Fireplace cleaning is more than shoveling ash out of the firebox. We clean every surface that smoke touches between the hearth and the damper, and we do it without turning your living room gray.
- Firebox: ash removed, firebrick and mortar joints brushed, everything pulled through HEPA filtration
- Smoke chamber and smoke shelf: creosote flakes and fallen debris scraped out of the area most homeowners never see
- Damper: cleaned, freed up and tested so it opens fully and seals when closed
- Glass doors and screens: soot film and baked on haze removed from both sides
- Gas fireplaces: logs lifted, burner ports and pilot assembly brushed, embers and media reset in the factory pattern
- Odor control: the source of smoky or musty smells found and treated, not covered with a spray
- Grate, andirons, tools and hearth wiped down before we leave
- Camera look up the flue with a written note if the chimney itself needs a sweep

Why it matters
Fireplace cleaning is a safety job, not a chore
Soot and creosote are fuel. Fine particles are a lung problem. Both collect in the exact spot where your family sits closest to the fire.
Failure to clean is the leading factor
NFPA found that failure to clean was the leading factor contributing to home heating fires, and most of those fires started in chimneys and fireplaces rather than furnaces.
Source: NFPA, Home Heating Fires reportThe creosote threshold
CSIA says an eighth of an inch of creosote is enough to require cleaning. Glazed creosote on the smoke shelf ignites at lower temperatures than most people expect.
Source: Chimney Safety Institute of AmericaWhat HEPA actually captures
A true HEPA filter removes at least 99.97 percent of particles at 0.3 microns, which is the size range of soot. That is why we never clean a firebox with a shop vac.
Source: U.S. Environmental Protection AgencyWarning signs
Eight signs your fireplace is overdue for a cleaning
You do not need a camera to notice the first few. The last ones are why the camera comes along anyway.
Campfire smell in July
Creosote soaks up moisture and releases odor when Lake Erie humidity climbs. A house that smells smoky in summer has a dirty fireplace, not a bad air freshener.
Fires that struggle to start
Buildup in the smoke chamber or a damper stuck half open chokes the draft. You end up feeding kindling and blaming the wood.
Smoke rolling into the room
A narrowed throat or a crusted smoke shelf turns smoke back toward the hearth.
Black flakes on the hearth
Those crunchy shards are creosote breaking off the smoke shelf. They mean the deposit is thick enough to crack under its own weight.
Gas glass that blackens fast
Soot on a gas fireplace glass within a week points to blocked burner ports or logs sitting off their pins. Both are cleaning and setup issues.
Dust and coughing after a fire
Fine soot leaves the firebox with every draft reversal. If the mantel is gray by morning, so are your lungs.
More than a year since the last visit
NFPA 211 calls for a yearly inspection of every fireplace and chimney, used or not. Most wood burning homes here need cleaning on the same schedule.
You just bought the house
Treat the fireplace as unknown until a certified technician has cleaned it and put a camera up the flue.
How it works
How the visit goes
Protect the room
Drop cloths from the door to the hearth, the HEPA vacuum running before the first brush touches brick. Furniture and rugs stay where they are.
Clean from the damper down
Smoke shelf and chamber first, then firebox walls, floor, grate and glass. Gas units get the burner and pilot brushed and the log set rebuilt to spec.
Camera and function check
A quick flue camera pass, damper test, and on gas units a pilot and ignition test. Anything we find goes on video you can keep.
Walk through and notes
You see the firebox before we pack up. If the chimney needs a sweep or a repair, you get it in writing with photos, never as pressure at the door.

Pricing
What changes the price of fireplace cleaning
Three things move the number. We look at all three during the free estimate, and you get a firm written price before any work starts.
Fuel type and unit
A wood burning masonry fireplace needs smoke chamber scraping. A gas unit needs burner service and log placement. Prefab wood units fall between the two.
Time since the last cleaning
Flaky creosote brushes out. Glazed creosote that has baked on for several seasons takes longer and may call for a chemical treatment first.
Extras you choose
Glass door restoration, a damper repair or bundling a full chimney sweep on the same visit each change the total. All are optional and quoted separately.

FAQ
Questions Cleveland homeowners ask us
How often should a fireplace be cleaned in Northeast Ohio?
Once a year for most wood burning homes, ideally in late summer before the first cold night. Families who burn several nights a week all winter sometimes need a midwinter visit. Gas fireplaces need a yearly service too.
Do gas fireplaces really need cleaning?
Yes. Dust settles in burner ports, spiders nest in pilot tubes over the summer, and logs get bumped off their pins during dusting. Each of those causes sooting, delayed ignition or a lazy yellow flame.
Is fireplace cleaning the same as a chimney sweep?
No. This service covers the firebox, smoke chamber, damper, glass and gas components at the bottom of the system. A chimney sweep cleans the flue above the damper. Many homes need both, and we bundle them on one visit when the camera shows the flue needs it.
Will there be soot in my house afterward?
No. The HEPA vacuum runs the entire time, the work zone is covered from the door to the hearth, and technicians wear shoe covers. If we ever track anything onto carpet, we clean it with our own plant based products before we leave.
Can you get rid of the smoky smell in summer?
Usually, yes. The smell comes from creosote absorbing humidity, and it fades once the smoke shelf and chamber are clean. If it persists, a top sealing damper or a chimney cap stops the moist air that feeds it.
What does fireplace cleaning cost?
It depends on fuel type, the condition of the firebox and any extras you choose. Estimates are always free, and you receive a firm written price before we begin. Request one online or call and we will quote your fireplace.
